A Stained Glass Casement, Built to Match

Salvaged sashes, new stained glass, and a double casement built to carry them — set to sit alongside the original windows on the front of the house.

The owner tracked the two sashes down herself, secondhand, the exact source long since lost. A friend of hers who works in glass cut the stained glass to fit them. Everything around that was ours: we glazed the glass into the sashes, built a custom double casement frame to carry them, painted it, and fitted hinges and custom stays to hold the windows open.

The house already had original stained glass on the front elevation. This casement was designed and built to sit alongside that work rather than stand apart from it.

The windows are over the kitchen sink, so they throw coloured light across the room and she looks out through them every day. We also built storm windows and screens for the outside, swapped over with the seasons.
